About the Farm

The founding of Monroe Creamery is the culmination of many years of planning, dreaming and expanding our plans. In other words, just when we thought we figured out the direction we were going, stuff changed and we replanned. Monroe Creamery is part of our farm, Leaping Lapin Farm LLC (pronounced lEE-ping luh-pahn faHRM) From the very beginning, our family has worked and strived to have a balance and strong level of sustainability in our life. We've worked to utilize what God has given us to work as stewards of the land and resources. This journey led us to our property in Monroe, WA.

In 2017, we purchased 18 acres of neglected pasture and ranch land. We have always strived to live as sensibly as possible by utilizing our land and resources to provide for our family by growing a large percentage of our own food, alongside raising animals for joy and consumption and generating income. We always strive to not overwhelm the land and resources we have been charged with caring for. A sheep dairy was our logical choice that fit those needs.

But why call ourselves a Creamery?

The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) classifies dairy operations as a Dairy Producer and a Dairy Processer.

A dairy producer produces fluid milk that is stored and sold raw to commercial facilities and can also be sold direct to the consumer as regulated by the WSDA.A dairy processor is a facility that takes the fluid milk, either from bulk purchasing from other farms or from their own animals, and processes it further. There may be homogenization, pasteurization, or the making of other dairy products like whipping cream, cheese, or yogurt to name a few. In other words, dairies are producers and creameries are processors. So, a dairy is the farm where you keep cows or other animals for milking purposes and raw milk sales. A creamery is where you would produce and or sell dairy products like milk, cheese, butter, sour cream, buttermilk, and other fluid milk products, but not necessarily off of a farm.

Taking it a step further, we are a Craft Dairy.

A Craft Dairy is a small-to-medium-sized farmstead operation that utilizes the property to pasture raise dairy animals and utilizes the fluid milk to direct market milk products or process further into butter, creams and cheeses. Most consumers are surprised to find out that a gallon of milk purchased is a mixture of milk from many different animals and many different dairies. A Craft Dairy is a single, farm-sourced product.

FAQ & Policies

How do bottle deposits and returns work?

All raw milk in glass bottles includes a $2.00 bottle deposit in the item price. Please leave clean, unbroken Monroe Creamery bottles in plain sight by your cooler at delivery—our team will pick them up with your regular drop. Once bottles are received, a credit is added to your account within 48 hours.
‍
To receive bottle credit, all returned glass bottles must be thoroughly rinsed, completely clean inside, and returned with the lid securely in place. The lid helps protect the inside of the bottle from dust and debris during storage and pickup.

What makes A2/A2 milk different?

The difference between A2 milk and A1 milk is one protein strand in the cow’s DNA. That one protein difference in A2/A2 milk seems negligible, but it can lead it to be more digestible and tolerable to those who experience digestive issue with milk.  If you couldn’t drink mass produced cow milk in the past, but can tolerate goat milk, you may be able to drink A2 milk and all of the A2 dairy products we carry.

Can I add on extras?

Absolutely! Along with our egg add-on subscription, you can shop one-time add-ons and extras every week from our online shop. Just be sure to finalize your cart by the weekly order cutoff (72 hours before your scheduled delivery).

What happens if I go on vacation?

We understand that life gets busy! You can always have a friend or family member receive your milk instead, or you can place a vacation hold directly from your account dashboard. Please make sure to do so at least 7 days in advance.

How does weekly ordering and delivery work?

We'll email/text you each week before we bottle, and you'll have until that week's cutoff time (72 hours before your scheduled order) to add extras or modify your order. We'll send you another alert when your milk has been delivered.

Raw Milk Storage Tips

We bottle our raw milk fresh, ensuring peak flavor and longevity compared to grocery store gallons. Follow these tried and true tips to make that farm-fresh flavor last:

  • Refridgerate ASAP. Store raw milk at or below 38°F (3°C) as soon as possible after pickup. The colder it stays, the longer it lasts. Even short periods above 40°F can shorten shelf life and affect flavor.
  • Pour Fresh. When using milk, pour what you need into a separate glass — never drink straight from the jar. Returning a used jar to the fridge introduces bacteria that can spoil the milk faster.
  • ‍Store in the reusable glass jars provided. Glass helps maintain the milk’s flavor and temperature better than plastic. Avoid metal containers, which can react with the milk’s natural enzymes.
    ‍
Remember to thoroughly wash your glass jars before returning them!
